How To Sweep A Room

Switch off your own wireless devices so they do not trigger the detector.
Run the RF mode slowly along walls, sockets, smoke alarms and vents. The alert speeds up as you get closer to a live signal.
Dim the lights, look through the red viewing lens and scan mirrors, clocks and chargers. Camera lenses reflect back as a bright dot.
For a vehicle, pass the magnetic mode under bumpers, wheel arches and boot lining to find attached trackers.

Radio Frequency Sweep

Finds what is transmitting

A camera that streams has to send its signal somewhere, and that signal is what gives it away. Walk CamScan along the walls and the alert quickens as you close in. Six sensitivity levels let you start wide across the room, then dial down until the noise falls away and only one spot is still reacting.

Infrared Lens Finder

Finds what is only watching

This is the part a signal scanner alone will always miss. Plenty of cameras record straight to a memory card and transmit nothing at all, so there is no signal to catch. Look through the red viewfinder instead. Glass throws the light back at you, so a lens hidden inside a mirror, a clock or a phone charger answers with a single bright dot.

Magnetic Field Probe

Finds what is following you

Most vehicle trackers clamp on with a magnet, and that magnet is exactly what betrays them. The probe reacts to the magnetic field itself, so a tracker sitting dormant between transmissions still shows up. Do I need an app or a phone?

No. CamScan works entirely on its own. Charge it, switch it on, sweep. Nothing to pair, install or sign in to, which also means it works in a room whose Wi-Fi you have no access to.

Will my own devices set it off?

They can, which is exactly why step one is switching off your phone and laptop wireless. The router, the TV and any smart speaker will register too, so identify those first. Once the room is quiet, anything still reacting is worth a proper look.

How does it find a camera that is switched off?

Through the infrared viewfinder. A lens is glass, and glass reflects the red light straight back as a bright point, whether the camera is streaming, recording to a card, or sitting idle. This is the gap that signal only detectors and phone apps cannot cover.

Do I need any training to use it?

No. Two buttons, mode and sensitivity, and a printed manual in the box. Most people learn it on the first sweep and it takes about two minutes a room after that.

Can I take it on a flight?

Yes. At 20 g and under 11 cm it travels in your cabin bag like any other small rechargeable device.

What do I do if I actually find something?

Do not touch it or unplug it. Photograph it exactly where it sits, leave the room or the vehicle, and report it to the hotel or booking platform and to the local police. Leaving it in place keeps the evidence intact.
